The Higher School of Saharan Agriculture of Adrar is organizing a National Seminar on Aquaculture in Saharan Zones.

This scientific event will provide a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences to explore the challenges and opportunities associated with the development of aquaculture in Saharan environments.

The goal is to promote sustainable and innovative practices to enhance food security and support the local economy, while preserving the fragile natural resources of these regions.

The objectives of this seminar are as follows:

• To raise awareness of the specific challenges of aquaculture in Saharan environments, highlighting issues such as water scarcity, high salinity, extreme temperatures, and water resource management. It also aims to emphasize the crucial role of aquaculture in these regions for strengthening food security and diversifying local economic activities.
• To explore sustainable aquaculture practices adapted to arid conditions, by presenting innovative systems such as aquaponics, the use of brackish water, and the recycling of treated wastewater. Discussions will focus on resilient species (such as fish, crustaceans, or adapted microalgae) and on eco-responsible techniques for managing ponds and nutrients.
• To promote exchanges between experts, aquaculture practitioners, and researchers, through experience-sharing sessions involving both local actors and scientists. The emphasis will be placed on technological innovations, field-based feedback, and practical solutions for optimizing production while preserving the fragile ecosystems of the Sahara.
